Joshua stopped doing his paperwork and went out to the balcony to get some coffee. Just as he was about to pour himself a cup, however, Dr. Daniels entered into the room. He appeared to be very tired at the time.
“Josh,” said Dr. Daniels groggily. “Why are you still up? It’s 3 o’clock in the morning.”
“I have much work to do,” replied Joshua. He finished pouring his cup of coffee. “Explain why you are up.”
“I had a bad dream,” he replied. “I shouldn’t have eaten that Indian food right before bed.”
Joshua started walking back to his room.
“Wait up!” said Dr. Daniels.
“For what?” said Joshua as stopped and turned around.
“Get some sleep, Josh,” he replied. “Everyone else is.”
“No,” replied Joshua. He then finished walking back to his room.
Right as he was all settled at his desk, he heard a knock at the door. He knew it was Dr. Daniels. He immediately got up and opened the door.
“Yes?” said Joshua.
“What’s bugging you, Josh?” asked Dr. Daniels. He now appeared to be more awake.
Joshua then let Dr. Daniels into his room. He soon shut the door behind him.
“Would you really like a list of things I need to do?”
“Yes,” replied Dr. Daniels. “If it’s just that tribal leader disappearing, then don’t worry. Everything has extra security tonight.”
“You needn’t forget the lush island disintegrating in the middle of the desert,” began Joshua. “Or should I mention how Max had just frightened Jlanda today?”
“How did he do that? Is she okay?”
“She’s perfectly fine,” replied Joshua. “He was reading a book.”
“Who would’ve thought?”
“Never mind,” said Joshua as he started on his paperwork. “These cases need to be solved.”
It was at that moment that Joshua heard another knock on the door. Dr. Daniels opened it this time.
“The N’d’lan don’t exist!” said Lucas.
“I should’ve known,” replied Joshua. “Lucas, where did their name come from? Where did the language they speak come from?”
“Uh, I think you’ll just have to ask the lady in the palace hospital,” replied Lucas. “I was just talking to her.”
“Why were you talking to her, Lucas?” asked Dr. Daniels.
“I was just walking down the hallway to get a snack!” replied Lucas. “As I was walking, she opened her hospital room door. She wanted me to get you guys so that she could tell the whole story of who her people really are!”
“What convinced you to listen to her?” asked Dr. Daniels.
“She was going to beat me up if I didn’t,” replied Lucas. “I don’t know how she’d do that, since she is hurt and all.”
“She threatened you, eh?” replied Dr. Daniels. “Josh, that sounds like your type of people.”
“What are you meaning…?” said Joshua as he soon began to think about it. “Actually, I do believe you got something there, Dr. Daniels. There very well might be a connection between these so called N’d’lan and my people, the Dark Thieves.”
“Any work you’d like me to do for you, Josh?” asked Dr. Daniels.
“Just follow me,” replied Joshua. “We need to figure out what the connection really is between these people and the Dark Thieves. It might even explain Max taking time out of his day to read a book in the park.”
“Alright!” said Lucas excitedly. “Can I join?”
“Yes, Lucas, you may join us,” replied Joshua.
