Former NFL All-Pro linebacker Junior Seau is recovering from apparently minor injuries received in a car accident as he drove his Cadillac Escalade off a cliff in Carlsbad, California just hours after he was released on bail following his arrest on felony domestic violence charges.
According to AP reports. the SUV was found nearly 100 feet below the road, said Carlsbad police Lt. Kelly Cain. Cain said it was not a steep cliff, but was a significant slope. Seau was transported from the scene by ambulance to Scripps La Jolla Hospital in San Diego.
Details of Seau’s Domestic Violence Arrest
The domestic violence charges relate to his 25-year-old live-in girlfriend. Apparently she reported to authorities that Seau assaulted her during the course of an argument late Sunday night at his home, according to Oceanside police. She had visible minor injuries but did not require medical treatment.
Seau was arrested outside his home about two hours later after police arrived. Although he wasn’t home when authorities arrived, they asked him to return when he called to check in on his girlfriend. Some nine hours later Seau posted bail and was released from the San Diego County jail. It was following his release that he fell asleep behind the wheel and had the accident.
