Mike Holmgren’s work with the Cleveland Browns could take a few years but this match up against the Kansas City Chiefs could create some confidence early in the NFL season. The Kansas City Chiefs looked strong in their home debut on the defensive side of the ball but their passing game with Matt Cassel at the helm had room for improvement.
Passing Attacks of Cleveland Browns & Kansas City Chiefs Not Much to Judge
Comparing the Cleveland Browns and Kansas City Chiefs is a difficult task. The Kansas City passing attack was more anemic than that of the New York Jets. That is pretty awful. Cassel threw for 68 yards, six less yards than Sanchez but he did have a touchdown.
Jake Delhomme is up to his old tricks again as the Cleveland Browns quarterback. He threw two badly timed interceptions and threw for 227 yards in the Cleveland Browns loss in their first NFL game. Delhomme had a few moments of greatness in his first NFL game as a Cleveland Brown but in the end he was his inconsistent self. Even though Jake Delhomme is a wild card in this game the Cleveland Browns have the edge in the passing attack over the Kansas City Chiefs.
Running Games of Cleveland Browns & Kansas City Chiefs Exciting and Deliberate
Montario Hardesty was expected to be a part of a potent one-two combination with Jerome Harrison in the back field. When Hardesty went down with a devastating knee injury, Jerome Harrison was vaulted back into the number one featured back position for the Cleveland Browns. He only gained 52 yards on the ground in the first NFL match up of the 2010 campaign. If the Cleveland Browns running attack is to help Delhomme set up the pass, he will have to be more effective on the ground.
Jamaal Charles, Thomas Jones and Dexter McCluster could win this game without a quarterback on the field. Jamaal Charles did not break the century mark in his first outing of the 2010 NFL season but his 92 yards and one touchdown played a big part in the Kansas City Chiefs win. On special teams the NFL debut for Dexter McCluster was a rousing success as he had a 94 yard punt return in the driving rain.
With the amount of talent in the Kansas City backfield the Kansas City Chiefs have a huge edge in the running game.
Kansas City Chiefs vs Cleveland Browns -2.5: Pick Against the Spread & Final Word
On one side of the ball will be a ball control offense with no passing attack and an aggressive hard hitting defense, the Kansas City Chiefs. On the other side of the ball, the Cleveland Browns have a decent passing game and solid running game that could break out with some big rushing games throughout the season. The game is a coin flip but the home team Cleveland Browns should have a slight edge. Take the Cleveland Browns -2.5 points but be careful not to take this one too seriously.
