I read a Yahoo Music article today that discussed the pain Kanye West is still suffering behind the Taylor Swift incident that occurred during the MTV Video Music Awards last year. While, I agree that what Kanye did was ridiculous and he had no right, I think some people are taking it a bit too far.
In the Yahoo article, Kanye is quoted discussing people who posted on Twitter stating they wish he was dead. Is it just me or is that just a bit insane? I understand that people are angry. Taylor did not deserve what he did. But wishing him dead? Sounds to me like Kanye is not the only person out there with issues.
I have a theory that people who get that emotionally invested into this kind of celebrity drama, do so because they don’t have much going on in their own lives. The person that has the right to be the most upset is Taylor and I do not recall reading anywhere that she wished him bodily harm. In fact, Taylor responded with as much class as anyone could in that situation. I don’t think she would support this kind of irrational response from fans.
Personally, I thought Kanye deserved to be temporarily banned from awards shows and a public apology was a definite necessity. However, the fans do not have the right to decide what should happen as a result of his outburst. His popularity and reputation have already suffered severely, which is understandable under the circumstances.
According to the article, Kanye has apologized and written a song for Taylor. If Taylor accepts his apology then, as far as I am concerned, everyone else should to. Yes, he messed up big and no one wants to let him forget it anytime soon. However, I think Kanye will make his way back. The one thing that has not changed is that Kanye is still very talented. Once he gets that ego under control I think we will see a new and improved Kanye. In the meantime, people really need to let it go.
