Love her or loathe her, Kate Gosselin continues to get more and more media coverage than any other “non-star” out there. People Magazine, in particular, seems to be a big Kate Gosselin fan and this week features the mom of eight in a two-piece white bikini flaunting her “most fit” figure to date.

People seems to have a special affinity for the reality-tv star, author, Dancing With The Stars alum, the author of a novel (with lackluster sales, click here for more) and the mother of eight children. Yet, they verge on overwhelming readers with new information on Kate on a fairly regular basis.
For example, in May, 2009 she was on the “We Might Split” cover; and in June of the same year “I feel like I’ve Failed” cover.
And then in 2010 there was the new hairdo with extensions cover in January, the Dancing With The Stars cover with dance partner Tony Dovolani in March, and the “Kate & The Kids: Their Lives Now” cover in May.
While that’s just five covers mentioned here it still seems like a lot in such a short period. There’s no need to even mention how many articles without cover features that People has devoted on Kate.
Even her ex, Jon Gosselin, has landed on the cover of People, but at least Jon was creating enough fodder and foible in his life to warrant that decision.
Despite the apparent growing unrest with People’s decision to put Kate on the cover so often, it continues to happen. While most people could probably understand why, say, Princess Diana graced People’s covers for years, many are out there scratching their heads as to why such a well-respected magazine thinks “Kate is so great”.
Yet, People execs could be laughing now all the way to the bank. Maybe it’s part of a brilliant marketing plan to bring in more viewers and readers…..whether they hate Kate or think Kate’s great.
