Sunday night on TLC’s “Kate Plus 8”, single mom of 8 Kate Gosselin was back, showing us how she celebrates Halloween with her ginormous brood.
First up, Kate dons her highest heels to go to the Halloween store to stock up on bags of bloody eyeballs, tombstones and other spooky décor. She fields this trip sans kids while they are at school. Good idea. Her cart is stacked to the gills. Can you imagine how much more would’ve been thrown into the cart if the kids had been there?
But later, the kiddos join her for a mega trip to pick out Halloween costumes. The store is sold out of everything good, so the kids have to settle. A sampling of the final costumes include a ninja, a sailor and a S.W.A.T dude. Not sure which kid was dressed as what- I wish they’d put up subtitles with the kids names!
For some reason, Cara Gosselin decides she’s too cool to dress up for Halloween. She goes out for Halloween dressed as herself, as in no costume. It’s like those teenagers that come trick or treating to your door with a pillowcase for a bag and their street clothes on. Except Cara Gosselin is only 10. Rather young to lose that Halloween magic, but I guess kids on TV grow up fast.
Later, Kate tries to recapture the joy of taking her kids to a pumpkin patch. There is a flashback to the very first “Jon and Kate Plus 8” episode, where the family went to a pumpkin patch when the sextuplets were just toddlers. But now Jon is gone and everyone is grown up. Very melancholy scene, because while you want the kids to have fun at the pumpkin patch, it’s sad to see the flashback. Kind of in the way it makes you wistful to see your own kids grow up.
Kate makes mention that her son Collin has anger issues since the divorce. This is also sad to hear, but she praises him for having a happy time at the pumpkin patch.
Finally, in the most joyous scene of the episode, Kate surprises the kids with an old friend: their beloved dog, Shoka. If you don’t recall, the Gosselin kids’ pet dogs were unceremoniously taken back to the breeder during the divorce chaos, for some extended doggie training. Kate made good on her promise to bring one of the dogs back- the more mild mannered Shoka. She also promises to reunite Shoka with his sister, Nala, at some point.
But the squeals of joy from the 8 Gosselin kids were worth the price of admission to this episode. Kate noted that each kid came up to her multiple times to thank her for bringing Shoka back. Indeed there was a lot of hugging going on- a regular Gosselin love fest!
And as for recent reports that two of her kids, Collin and Alexis, were expelled from school, Kate Gosselin put the kibosh on that. She told Entertainment Tonight that the two children are being tutored at home, with the goal “to get them back into school as soon as possible”.
Now, with Halloween wrapped up, will Kate and the kids have a Very Gosselin Christmas?
