Kids love crafts, and what better time of year to share the crafting experience than Christmas? This adorable little photo wreath is a great way to spend some time with the kids during their winter break and makes a beautiful memento once completed.
You Will Need:
– a sturdy sheet of cardboard or a small cardboard circle (2in. diameter, available at craft stores)
– green tissue paper or tissue paper squares
– 1 or 2 pieces of thin red ribbon
– non-toxic glue
– a pencil (preferably an old one)
– a small photo of your choice
To Make the Wreath
If you don’t have a cardboard circle, take your sheet of cardboard and cut one out, approximately 2 inches in diameter. You will also need to prepare tissue paper squares if you are unable to find pre-cut squares. To do this, simply cut the green tissue paper into 1.5-2in. squares until you have a nice pile of little green squares. Now you’re ready to begin!
Take your photo and trim it down if necessary to fit in the middle of your cardboard square. If you or your child prefer, you can cut it into a fun shape like a heart or a star. Center the photo on the cardboard circle and glue it in place.
The next step is time-consuming, but fun! You and your child can take turns to help it go faster, or even make it a game to see who can place the most tissue paper. Take the pencil and place it eraser-side down in the center of a tissue square. Crinkle the paper up around the pencil and place a dab of glue on the underside. Press the paper down on the cardboard circle, starting near the center around the photo and working your way out. Continue until the entire circle is covered and there is no cardboard visible around the photo. Set aside to dry.
Once dry, take one piece of ribbon and tie it in a bow shape. Glue this to the bottom of the wreath, centering it under the photo. If you wish to use your wreath as an ornament, punch a small hole in the top of the wreath and thread a second piece of ribbon through it, tying to make a hanger. Set aside to dry completely.
Now you have a beautiful Christmas memento to put on the mantle or hang on the tree year after year!
