Ah, the holidays are drawing nigh and little minds start thinking about Santa and what he is bringing them. It can be hard to get them to settle down to any task because they get so excited. One way to focus them during the long holiday season when they are out of school is having them help decorate the home. They do not mind helping out for such a good cause and they can actually save you money by making some of the decorations themselves.
• Tree Decorations – Many families like to have a color coordinated trees. There are those who change color each year. Having the children make tree decorations can still keep with the color theme of the year. All you need is some construction paper, string and glue and your kids can make cute decorations that they enjoy looking at on the tree. They can cut out snowflakes, trees and even make personalized ornaments but cutting out their own picture and gluing it onto the colored paper.
• Window Decorations – Take the construction paper that was used for the ornaments and let the children color their favorite designs or pictures on small circles. Use string to attach the circles in a straight line that can be hung in the window. Make them as long or short as you need to in order for them to fit. Imagine the delight on your child’s face when they come in from outside and see their artwork on display for the entire neighborhood.
• Home Decorations- Your kids can also use crafts and other ideas to create home decorations that you can display throughout the holiday season and also save for future holidays where they will serve as a reminder of fun times shared in the past. You can help your children make these home decorations and create special family memories while you do it.
Christmas time is probably harder on the children than it is on the parents no matter what the parents may think. They are overly excited and anxious and it can help a great deal to keep idle hands and minds occupied. Give them something to do by letting them help with the decorations. You save money and they get the pride of seeing their hard work on display. If you’re looking for ideas of something to do this holiday season for your children, allow them to get creative and make their own decorations for the season.
