The Koran burning was cancelled by the Florida Pastor after meeting with Imam Muhammad Musri of the Islamic Society of Central Florida. According to the Los Angeles Times, Musri met with the Florida Pastor, Terry Jones, who had planned the Koran burning on Saturday. Musri spoke to Terry Jones on Thursday in the hopes of convincing him to cancel the Koran burning. Musri used Biblical scripture to try to convince the Florida pastor that Christ is of peace and that both Musri and Jones share the same beliefs about terrorism. As for now the Koran burning has been cancelled and now the focus is on the mosque at ground zero in New York.
In their meeting, Musri reminded the Florida pastor that Biblical scripture from Christ offers peaceful solutions rather than hate and violence such as Koran burning. Musri’s words must have spoken to Terry Jones because according to a report in the New York Times, he has cancelled his Koran burning plans and is flying to New York to meet with Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf in the hopes of producing a compromise on the building of a mosque near ground zero.
Now that the Koran burning is cancelled, something strange is happening. Mr. Rauf claims that he has not spoken to Terry Jones but he is glad that the Florida Pastor has cancelled the Koran burning.
Another crazy twist in this story is from Sheriff Sadie Darnell. Sheriff Darnell is actually considering charging Dove World for the costs that the sheriff’s department has incurred from this Koran burning ordeal. Is this a joke? Cities are now going to charge citizens for other people’s reactions to freedom of speech?
Ok, so maybe most people did not agree with what he was planning but charge him for the Sheriff’s Office expense for the Koran burning ordeal even if it is cancelled? Even though the Koran burning was cancelled, Sheriff Darnell may consider sending the church the bill. What’s next, billing us for police officers visits to crime scenes at our own house?
For now, the Koran burning has been cancelled and according to Terry Jones he has no plans to go through with it even if the building of the mosque in New York will still go as planned. The meeting between Terry Jones and Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf is to take place on Saturday. If this meeting has a similar outcome as the Florida church’s cancelled Koran plans, the building of the mosque near ground zero will be cancelled and all will be well again on the home front.
