Some Stars forget their roots when they become famous. They do not share their wealth. American Idol, Kris Allen, has proved countless times that he is not going to forget his hometown of Conway, Arkansas.
Recently, he teamed up with the Music Empowers Foundation for a concert to benefit the Blackbird Academy of Arts, Inc. Blackbird Academy of Arts, Inc. is a local foundation, with its goal to bring music education to communities that do not have any. Music Empowers Foundation’s aim is to team up with other non profit organizations across the nation to become involved in this concerted effort.
A gala was held at Kris’ Alma mater, University of Central Arkansas, in October. Kris presented a concert. Prior to the concert, a VIP Sponsor Party was held. At the party, Allen performed and met personally with party attendees.
The reason that Allen was interested in this program was that arts and music funding has been getting cut from many State budgets. Blackbird is working on getting art education programs to all communities in Faulkner County, Arkansas. The Music Empowers Foundation, headquartered in New Jersey, pledged to match proceeds from the event up to $50,000 with a grant to Blackbird’s music program.
This is not Allen’s first project. He has teamed up with the Music Empowers Foundation in projects for Little Kids Rock and the Berkeley School of Music. He donated $100,000 for the Doctor Phil Foundation, also. This was in conjunction with Music Empowers Foundation.
Blackbird Academy, Conway Arkansas, has only been open for a year, but it has already offered reduced tuition rates, scholarships and free programming to many students, who would otherwise have been turned away by other art institutes.
Music Empowers Foundation provides funding on a national level to nonprofit organizations that offer music instruction to children in communities which do not have music programs.
The event proved to be successful. Kris Allen’s fans had a concert from their hometown Star. The event was a monetary success, also. It raised $100,000 for the local arts organization.
Kris Allen has proved countless times that his heart is still in Conway, Arkansas. Now that he has become famous, he is not going to forget the town that helped him receive the American Idol title. He has shown his charitable nature throughout the United States and other countries. His American Idol status has afforded him the means to make his interest in providing aid to others a reality. He has made his hometown proud of his musical and charitable accomplishments. He is Conway, Arkansas’ goodwill ambassador.
