Krystal Ball photos are the first ‘raunchy’ pictures of the political year. Although the Krystal Ball photos were taken years ago at a Christmas party, they have propelled the Virginia Congressional candidate into the spotlight. Since there is evidence that GOP-friendly elements posted the pictures, it basically served as an attack ad. The pictures were eventually taken down, but the details of what was on them are still spreading online. Thanks to the Krystal Ball photos, the candidate now has far more notoriety than she could have dreamed up, but for the wrong reasons.
A pro-Republican blog called ‘Virginia Vertucon’ was the first to host the pictures, thanks to a blogger named ‘Black Velvet Bruce Lu’ The shots are of Ball and her then-husband at a Christmas party, as the candidate is wearing a revealing costume, with her husband wearing a leash, a Santa hat, and a rubber penis in lue of a reindeer nose.
The Krystal Ball photos have already been taken down, after the initial wave of publicity. Since Republican elements were caught red handed posting these pictures, it serves as all the evidence Ball needs to call this a smear campaign.
Prior to this scandal, the candidate was fairly anonymous, as she is fighting an uphill battle in Virginia’s first district, against incumbent Republican Rob Wittman. She hasn’t been able to get a debate against Wittman, who is seeking his second full term. Yet thanks to the Krystal Ball photos, she has been able to get an even bigger platform.
Ball quickly struck back in calling the situation sexist, and saying the GOP was resorting to the “politics of personal destruction” She stated that Scott Brown’s past nude pictures did not stop him from winning in Massachusetts, and wasn’t treated as much of a big deal. In addition, she even stood up against sexist attacks on Republicans Sarah Palin and Christine O’Donnell.
Before the Krystal Ball photos came out, she was considered to have a small chance against Wittman. She is a progressive candidate, which is thought to be the kiss of death in the current climate. But if she really didn’t have a chance, there would have been no need to post the pictures. Yet now that she has national attention, she can try to use it to her advantage for newfound support.
Of course, the pictures themselves are making more headlines than the candidate and her issues, which she says was the whole point of this. But now that the Krystal Ball photos have given her an unwarranted 15 minutes of online fame, she is already on the attack to turn it around.
