One woman I despise more than any other is Lady Gaga. A self-styled egoist, who is so desperate for attention it’s pathetic, she struts around the world like she’s teaching us all something. Self-aggrandizing and self-important, she spouts off about the most inane things, like a preacher we should all be worshiping. At MTVs Video Music Awards on Sunday though, even Lady Gaga went over the top, wearing a dress cut out of raw slabs of flank steak, she announced it was a statement about the discrimination against gay men in the US military. Huh? That doesn’t even make sense.
According to Lady Gaga, in an interview after the show, she’s devastated so many of her gay fans are either in the military or cannot get in the military because of the US military’s “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” policy. But, in the interview with Ellen DeGeneres, when asked why her dress was made of slabs of raw meat, here’s what Lady Gaga attempted to explain.
“It’s certainly no disrespect to anyone that’s vegan or vegetarian. As you know, I am the most judgment-free human being on the earth. It has many interpretations, but for me this evening, it’s If we don’t stand up for what we believe in, we don’t fight for our rights, pretty soon we’re gonna have as much rights as the meat on our bones.'”
The, she sneered and added, “And I am not a piece of meat.”
Huh? Huh? And double Huh? That analogy just zipped around me without even registering, just like it probably did with the millions of MTV Video Music Award viewers who thought Lady Gaga looked and sounded like an idiot.
In the world of entertainment, let’s face it, practically everybody is an exhibitionist. But there are exhibitionists who actually do have something of value to say and exhibitionists who don’t, and Lady Gaga falls slap bang in the middle of the latter. And it’s the same in every interview Lady Gaga does.
In every new interview, Lady Gaga has a different issue she’s speaking out about. The problem is, all she does is speak out and speak out and speak out – with no follow through or attempt to change things whatsoever. As much use as a chocolate teapot.
Of course, the Los Angeles Times called her meat dress “a bloody mess”, offensive, and something that made the critic want to “drive heave”. But, as offensive as the raw meat dress was, even more offensive were the photographs of Lady Gaga’s almost-bare ass pushing its way out of the back of the bloody dress, as the meat dress began to decay and separate and fall into shreds. Nasty. Simply nasty.
As Lady Gaga becomes more trite, more conformist and more predictable, any message she might have about gay men in the military or any other issue that actually is important, Gaga herself is so lost in her self-involved insistence she’s worth paying any attention to at all, unfortunately nobody is listening.
