Lake Manatee State Park is conveniently located near Bradenton, Florida, just south of Tampa Bay. The three miles of shoreline on Lake Manatee offers visitors ample opportunities to fish, boat and swim. The rest of the parks 520+ acres are flatwood forests and sand pine scrubs. Fishing from the shore or boat is a popular activity within the park and a full facility campground offers visitors a chance to see it all and spend the night in comfort.
Lake Manatee serves as the water reservoir for both Sarasota and Manatee counties. While boating is allowed on the lake, it is limited to 20 horsepower motors due to the sensitive nature of this body of water. Canoeists and kayakers are often seen frequenting these dark waters. A small boat ramp provides access to the lake from the park.
Fishing in the tannin stained waters at Lake Manatee State Park is a popular activity along side of boating. A fishing dock allows those without a boat to cast a line into these fantastic fishing grounds. Sunshine bass and largemouth can be caught from the dock with ease. Other game fish like bluegill, catfish and perch can be caught here using a simple hook and bread bait.
But you don’t have to be an angler or boating enthusiast to enjoy Lake Manatee State Park. Hiking trails wind their way throughout the park, providing visitors a glimpse into the interior of its wildlife filed forests. A playground for the kids is located near the campground and horseshoe pits and a volleyball court are nearby. Horseshoes and volleyballs can be rented from the ranger station for a small fee.
The 60 site full facility campground provides park visitors with a great place to spend the night. Electricity and water are available at each site as well as nearby restrooms.
