A vacation in Las Vegas can be the trip of a lifetime. Walking tours by day or by night of the Vegas Strip and the surrounding area are one way to enjoy the sightseeing possibilities Vegas offers. Tours to the Grand Canyon, Lake Mead and Hoover Dam by helicopter or by bus can complement and expand your Vegas vacation. These tours can be as short as three hours or take you through two days of guided sightseeing.
Walking Tours of the South Strip
A popular way of sightseeing in Las Vegas is to walk the Vegas Strip by day or by night. Las Vegas Boulevard, with its concentrated collection of neon lights and themed casinos, can delight and immerse you in its glitz if you take the time to experience it in all its detail.
Since the Strip extends almost four miles, it is advisable to obtain a walking map. National Geographic provides a map with guidelines for a walking tour of the Las Vegas South Strip. This tour has fantasy as its theme and includes the Tropicana, MGM Grand, Excalibur, Luxor and Mandalay Bay.
The map gives practical tips, such as the position of pedestrian overpasses of Las Vegas Boulevard. It also directs you to sites inside the casinos such as the lion’s den in MGM Grand. There is also information on the roller coaster ride outside New York-New York casino and the free tram to Luxor casino. The tour ends on the rooftop lounge of Mandalay Bay for a view over the Strip and the mountains surrounding Las Vegas.
Grand Canyon by Helicopter
Helicopter tours of the Grand Canyon are a favorite among Las Vegas visitors. The scenery offered by a helicopter trip, including the Grand Wash Cliffs, red rock formations and a sweep of the Las Vegas Strip by day from the air, cannot be matched with views from the ground.
The All American Grand Canyon Helicopter Flight offers you a champagne lunch down inside the Grand Canyon and free limo service from your hotel to the airport. These helicopters hold six passengers and fly over Lake Mead, the Valley of Fire and Hoover Dam.
You can choose your departure time to fit your other Vegas activities. Helicopters depart early or late morning and early or late afternoon. The one-way trip to the West Rim of the Grand Canyon takes 45 minutes.
One-Night Grand Canyon Bus Tour
A wide selection of half-day, full-day and night bus tours gives you many choices to complement your Las Vegas vacation. Most of the bus tours visit the Grand Canyon in a single day trip, although tours are also available for a one-night stay.
The Grand Canyon Tour Company with its one-night tour offers you the time for hiking the nature trails or a moonlit walk around the rim of the Grand Canyon. Departure on this overnight bus tour is early morning from Las Vegas. After a stop at Hoover Dam, lunch is served at the historic Grand Canyon Railway in Williams, Arizona.
