Let’s go Red Sox! Theo, you need to get out there and find us the next, best young exciting player in baseball. Every year we hear the same old song, “We plan our team to be able to win 95 games, make the playoffs and hopefully win the World Series”. Of course, the ultimate goal is to win the World Series, but you know what Theo, we need a little bit more. We need that guy that is a “must-see”, someone that you have to see every at-bat just because something incredible could happen at anytime. We need a star. We need a guy that takes the team from vanilla to amazing. Remember Nomar in his heyday? We were on the edge of our seats at every at-bat. Manny and Papi, they were our bash-brothers, and they were unstoppable. These guys were bright shining stars – they carried us, they were our stars.
We have a team of players that are basically copies of each other. I’ll leave Pedroia and Youk out of this discussion, they have both proven to be great players. I am talking about the other guys, our new guys especially are nice players but they are not stars. Kalish and Nava – two guys that might someday be everyday players, but that is it everyday players. I know that I sound like a spoiled fan, and maybe I am. I am looking for more from the team. Excitement. Jacoby Ellsbury brought that two years ago. Then Theo moved him to left field. Why? The kid was flashy out there in center, he hit .300 and he was a terror to other teams on the bases. Move Ellsbury back to center where he belongs Theo, bat him lead-off, and watch him blossom.
Do what you have to do Theo, but please bring the team from monotone to Dolby surround sound stereo.
