Life has everything to offer each one of us and it is our choice. We are free to live and learn and it is never too late for anything you set your sights on.
What life-changing dream, event or thing do you want to do or accomplish? Do you have anything you want to correct, change or make better you think is too late to do?
Every human being goes through life with goals and plans to accomplish great things or carries around some sort of heavy burden that stems from a tragedy, failure and mistakes made in life. Perhaps the wrong words spoken to loved one or angry hurt feelings have kept us away. Maybe we have the outlook that we have missed the boat and we lost opportunities that have kept us believing that we will never win. Is it ever too late to make things better, go after a dream or correct the wrongs, change our path and catch another boat? Is it too late to forgive, find love again and be happy, we do not want it to be too late, but can it? What if someone dies before accomplishing what he or she wanted to?
The answer is and always will be, no. It is never too late because something good always comes from it, even in death.
Since birth, there were choices presented to us, and as we grew, we learned how to choose. First, by our parents guiding hands and examples than trial and error but most of all, we learned to choose by making mistakes and failing. Ultimately, when we grew up, we landed on our own two feet moving in a direction we chose to go. Choice is one of the greatest gifts that we have, and it will continue to be until the very end.
Never let anyone tell you that failure is not an option. Failure is always an option because failing is how we learn and succeed.
I think of the great basketball player, Michael Jordan, who talks about how he has “missed more than nine thousand shots in his career, lost more than three hundred games and was trusted twenty-six times to take the game winning shot and missed”. He says he has “failed over and over and over” in his life, and that is why he succeeds.
The meaning of life
According to many sources, the discussion on the meaning of life is a subject of philosophical, scientific and theological examination in every single culture. Whatever your belief, the truth is that most of us only have up to a hundred years to do what we choose, to learn and grow, succeed and fail and experience life to its fullest. We can only achieve this by trusting in a higher power and taking leaps of faith, believing in ourselves and not being afraid.
Too old you ask. Tell that to the 76-year-old Nepalese man who is the oldest man to climb to the top of Mt. Everest, he did not care about how old he was. He had no excuses and did what he believed he could do. Another example is, Jeanne Louise Calment, age 122. At age 85, Jeanne took up fencing and at age 100, she was still riding a bicycle (source: Wikipedia). These and many other great people never let age stand in their way, and we admire them for the example they set for all of us.
Are you ever too old? No, you are never too old. Life is what you make of it so take it by the horns and live anyway you choose.
Is it ever too late to…?
Fill in the blank. Each of us has things we want to do in life or something we need to start, finish or want to accomplish or some things we should do or even not do, before it seems too late.
Questionably, death may be the one thing that can make it too late. If you, a loved one or a friend dies, and you have been meaning to stop by and visit, call on the phone or heaven forbid, make amends with, and death comes before you can, “what do you do now and is it too late?”
The truth is, if you or a loved one dies before you can do whatever it was you needed to do than many lessons are learned from that and passed down to the rest of us who still have time to do the things we want to do. I believe in the case of death that it will cause us to learn a greater lesson, have a more meaningful outcome and help countless other people who will see this invaluable learning experience.
The choice is ours to do anything our heart desires. We can become anything we want to, and we chose our course by taking risks and having faith. We can change our life anyway we want to, and if we make mistakes and fail, then we learn, grow and move forward becoming stronger, better and more successful.
Pick up the phone and make that call to a friend, loved one or family member and make amends, get out and climb that mountain, chase your dreams and live life to its fullest with no regrets, there will come a day you will be glad you did.
