Lindsay Lohan rumors about a failed drug test are true. In spite of early denials, the actress finally sent out a tweet that cops to the positive result. A subsequent Lohan tweet offers an explanation. Is Dina listening?
Lindsay Lohan Tweet: Failed Drug Test Rumors are True
Fans subscribed to receive Lindsay Lohan tweet info from her verified account learned – at about 10 p.m. – that she failed another drug test. Her tweet reads: “Regrettably, I did in fact fail my most recent drug test and if I am asked, I am prepared to appear before judge [sic] Fox next week as a result.”
Lohan initially denied any rumors surrounding a failed drug test last week. The reader will remember that preceding the Lindsay Lohan tweet was a 14-day jail sentence and relatively short stint in rehab over a probation violation related to her DUI.
What Made Her Fall Off the Wagon?
Another Lohan tweet might shed some light on the reason for the positive drug test: “Substance abuse is a disease, which unfortunately doesn’t go away over night. …”
Is Addiction a Disease?
It would be simplistic to chastise an addict and demand that she pull herself up by her bootstraps. Just as it would be unheard of to tell a clinically depressed patient to ‘cheer up’, there is a very real depth to an addict’s propensity for abusing drugs.
The National Institute on Drug Abuse explains that addiction is more than a social issue or a moral deficiency within the addict’s character. Ending drug abuse is more involved than merely flushing illicit substances down the toilet and simply not replenishing the stash.
Instead, the agency likens addiction to a “brain disease” that is characterized by verifiable structural changes within the brain. Not surprisingly, a relapse is expected but should not be considered a failure but instead a warning signal to re-enter treatment.
Is Dina Lohan Listening?
Loyal readers remember my report on Dina Lohan, the actress’ mother, who suggested in a Matt Lauer interview “that Lindsay ‘has no problem with drugs or alcohol’.” While this may be news to anyone who has been following Lindsay Lohan and her court antics on TV, it is sadly a very common parental reaction.
The Drug Foundation explains that parents frequently do not want to admit to drug use of their kids because of stigma attached to this kind of admission. Even if it is not the worry about public shame, there is the nagging doubt that maybe a parent should (could) have done more to see the warning signs and get help.
This then begs the question — now that Lindsay Lohan rumors about a failed drug test have been confirmed by Lohan’s own tweet – if mom is listening.
Regrettably, I did in fact fail my most recent drug test and if I am asked, I am prepared to appear before judge Fox next week as a result.
