Overall, there is a frightening trend in Noe Valley and throughout San Francisco to have a seedy and rusty neon sign outside of a liquor store. It is rare to go into one of these stores and find something inviting, trendy, or new. It is the same generic corner store with the same generic products.
Their lack of product finesse is only characterized by their ugly neon signs outside. After all, the only thing they need to let you know is that they sell liquor. After that, no beautification measures need to be taken, in their opinion. For this reason, I am putting corner stores that sell liquor on my Noe Valley bad business neighbor list.
If I could have my own committee, it would centralize around liquor store appearance abatement. I understand that the city will not want to sponsor putting murals on the side of a liquor store. However, I feel like it is the responsibility of those liquor stores to have a proper and modern outward presentation that improves the neighborhood.
Here are some samples of a good neon sign versus an offending neon sign.
