Little Debbie Fall Party Cakes come in two varieties: chocolate and vanilla. I personally prefer the chocolate Fall Party Cakes because they are richer and thus more enjoyable to eat. The chocolate Fall Party Cakes consist of chocolate icing that completely covers the yellow cake portion of this snack cake. The yellow cake is divided in half by a fudge center. Both the chocolate icing and the fudge center are really quite good. The yellow cake is usually fairly moist and soft. The snack cakes are decorated with sprinkles that show off the colors of autumn, like yellow, orange and red. Aside from the sprinkles, nothing else about these snack cakes reminds me of the autumn season. The only other connection that can be made between these snack cakes and autumn is the fact that they only show up on store shelves for about two and a half months out of the year, and those months are September and October, and they can also be found during the last week of August and for a few weeks in November, generally. The Fall Party Cakes come in around the time summer is winding down and leave just as winter is approaching.
The vanilla Fall Party Cakes are not quite as good as the chocolate Fall Party Cakes in my opinion. Although I like vanilla very much, the vanilla icing used on the snack cakes is not the richest or tastiest. It is alright, but nothing delicious. The vanilla snack cakes also have the same yellow cake that rests in between the icing and the creme center. Just as the vanilla icing is not as flavorful as the chocolate icing, the sugary sweet creme filling is not as pleasant to the taste as the fudge center in the chocolate snack cakes is. At least the fudge center has a chocolaty flavor whereas the creme filling used in the vanilla snack cakes simply comes across as sweet and nothing else. The vanilla snack cakes also have the same autumn-themed sprinkles. I like the chocolate snack cakes more because there is less focus on pure sweetness and more focus on flavor, with that flavor being chocolate, while the vanilla snack cakes have less definable flavor, but more sweetness due to the creme filling. The creme kind of reminds me of the filling that can be found in Hostess Cupcakes and Hostess Twinkies. I do like the vanilla icing that coats the vanilla snack cakes, even though I feel the icing is not as rich in vanilla as it could have been, and the yellow cake is pleasant to the taste, but the chocolate snack cakes are the ones that deliver the most satisfaction.
Little Debbie Fall Party Cakes only come around for a couple of months and then they are gone until the next autumn season, but that may be why the chocolate snack cakes taste as good as they do. They can only be enjoyed for a limited amount of time and so while there is nothing all that creative or new concerning a sweet treat that consists of chocolate icing, a fudge center and yellow cake, the combination is still a tasty one and considering how the snack cakes are only available during a certain time of the year, makes them all the more satisfying to have when available.
