Courage
The night comes
I will not be afraid
The challenges of the day come
yet I stand tall
Fear will not stop me
from loving all creation
How can I not be strong
with such a compassionate
and loving creator?
He is within my heart
Creation says “Do not be afraid.”
Oh Creation,
you will guide and be
with me no matter what
may come
How blessed am I
to be loved so completely
With you beside me I can say
I will not be afraid!
Reflection
When we think of courage we may think of a hero who saves someone from death, or a soldier at war. These are wonderful examples of courage, and I admire people who have done these heroic acts.
I am going to discuss small acts of courage we may do almost every day and not even know it. The days in which we would much rather stay home with our family than go to work. We wake up and wonder,” How can I go to work today? I feel so empty.” Yet you know not only are your co-workers and supervisors depending on you but also your family. It takes courage to go to work when you feel depleted and as if you have nothing have to give. Perhaps that is a time to talk to your supervisor about possibly going on vacation if you haven’t had one for a long time.
The courage a parent gives when they encourage their children to use the gifts they have given. Even if it means moving to another town, state, country. Even the first day of school for a small child is hard on a parent. They have to have a certain amount of courage to know their child will be alright.
In all of our lives there are also times when we have to dig deep within and use our courage to get through very difficult situations. If we know that we have the emotional and spiritual tools we need to get through we will be able to have the courage we need. Sometimes courage involves asking others for help.
I have found I find the deepest courage when I feel one with nature and creation and realize I am part of something much bigger than myself and if I just take it one step at a time there will be light at the end of the tunnel.
What does this reflection mean to you?
Thought for the day
I will look within and to creation for courage today
At the end of your day turn the page and read the poem.
Today is a day of courage!
You may have been hurt today
Keep going
You may have had a major disappointment
Keep going
Maybe you have had a loss
Keep going
You may ask why
My world has fallen apart
This is the answer I would give
For me it is this one belief
I was born for a purpose
To love God, love my neighbor and myself
This belief isn’t based on me living it
only when I have a good day
This is every day
Also I believe God has given
me the spiritual tools I need
to keep going
and if God has given them to me
I am sure He has given them to you
He has such hope and love for us
How can we not keep going
So, please even if you are
going through hard times
put one foot in front of the other
and keep going
