“You can see it in their eyes
That they love Jesus,
Through the pain and the tears
He gave them hope through the fears.”
…Part of the chorus from a song Kerri wrote, “In their eyes.”
A very talented young lady that I had the privilege of working with is an inspiration to all those who come in contact with her work. Kerri MeClelland is a local artist who prides herself with a beautiful singing voice and a talent for playing the piano. Kerri sings many songs that relate to the love she holds dear to her religious beliefs. Kerri is originally from Visalia, CA, but calls Lodi home. I cherish the Christmas program she directed for our little School last year, read about it HERE.
Kerri credits her inspiration to a non-profit organization here in Lodi called Building Blocks and she describes Building Blocks (BB) as a behind the scenes beneficial program.” BB is a faith based non-profit organization here in Lodi started about 8 years ago. Even though Kerri’s Mom is the director Kerri loves being involved in the program. BB provides not only physical needs for the needy people of our community, but spiritual needs as well. BB provides food, clothes, household items and furniture. BB also has school supplies and toy give-a-ways at Christmas time. The families that come to us also have the opportunity to go to church services, Bible studies, camps, and vacation Bible school all through the year.”
Kerri tells me that she started helping her parents with BB and this gave her a chance to work and teach kids about the Lord. She has an inspiring message of hope especially with our struggling economy. BB has been a big part of her inspiration. Kerri tells me, “I have learned so much from this ministry. Family life and relationships with people in general are a big part of my inspiration as well. I always used music as an emotional tool whether I was celebrating something or was very sad. I used music as a way to enjoy/ get through those times. I play the piano, and want to learn the guitar I hope to take lessons real soon.”
Kerri is working on a new project recording a Christmas Album, and also a musical for Christmas at BB. She’s worked on simple demo recordings, but not a full record before. Some proceeds from the New Christmas Album will go to BB. Kerri says the most important part of her talent is to share and teach others about God through music.
Kerri has written a few songs, “One is called ‘In their eyes’, Kerri goes on to explain, “it is about my experience when I went on my mission trip to Jamaica….that was such a life changing experience for me…. and I have another song called’ I want you to know’ which is about a personal situation…where I was telling someone that I wanted them to know that I forgave them for some heartache they put me through.”
Kerri just finished earning an AS degree in Music at Delta College in Stockton, CA. Kerri is optimistic about the future, “The Lord is putting some new desires and passions in my heart so I am hoping to make a decision about my future real soon. My dream job/career would be to become a Christian recording artist. I would love to share the talent with others that the Lord has blessed me with, and to help spread His word. What a blessing that would be.”
‘We sat and watched them pray
for people across this land,
it made me cry.
With their own past behind
their hearts were opened wide
for the needs of others. (Part of chorus…. ‘In their eyes’, written by Kerri McClelland
