OpEd Message to Clarice the Conservative
Making marijuana legal would benefit the state of California in countless ways. Where do I even begin? Hello, pot is a natural plant and there are more important crimes law enforcement should concern themselves with. That’s just the tip of the iceberg. If I need to give Clarice an example of how it would drastically improve our ways of living by legalizing pot, I shall go over the rebuttals!
First of all outlawing pot hasn’t prevented 100 million Americans from trying the drug. Why should it be illegal for anyone over the age of 21 to have marijuana? Tobacco and alcohol is addicting if it’s abused, so why is pot any different? How many times do we have to go over this reasoning?
In 2008, the FBI reported over 61,000 Californians were arrested for misdemeanors in marijuana possession. Consider the number here when they also reported 60,000 violent crimes went unsolved. This no doubt was in large part due to pot being the reason other crimes were ignored. If Prop. 19 passes, California will save millions and go for those who should be busted – the violent offenders of society, not non-violent marijuana consumers!
And excuse, me adults 21 and over are the ones who can legally get pot if Prop. 19 passes – not kids. Those who oppose the marijuana measure worry the drug would more accessible to kids. Alcohol is accessible to young people in France, but you don’t hear about the problems they have with alcoholics. That’s because they don’t make it such a big issue of it. In fact there is no legal drinking age in that country. The only law they have is kids under the age of 16 can’t buy alcohol.
If pot were legalized, let’s not leave out the drug cartels. They won’t be nearly the problem that they are now. Think how the illegal marijuana market has contributed to 60 percent of the drug cartel market that comes from the U.S.. Doesn’t it makes sense to end this chaos in drug trafficking?
On top of all this, Proposition 19 will get $1.4 billion in state revenue a year for health care, jobs, parks, roads, public safety, and transportation for the state of California.
All of these points are valid reasons to vote YES on Proposition 19. I’m tired of the government telling us what we can and can’t do. In fact, if pot is finally made legal maybe the nation will see what a benefit this is to California and change their laws as well.
Clarice the Conservative isn’t looking at the whole picture. Such a sad thing from a tea-party supporter. Then again, what do we expect from such a right-winged fanatic. Check her arguments out HERE.
