When I first starting researching this story I thought this guy was a f@#king nut job, not far removed from Kim Jong-Il who has done some really bizarre things and made some outrageous statements. But after some time spent researching this man I don’t think he is a lunatic at all.
The evidence shows a man who is using a religious belief system to manipulate a country that he rules along Ali Hoseyni Khāmene’i , as a figure head with an iron fist. Ahmadinejad has convinced a large portion of the population that the Mahdi return is at hand and he is the mahdaviat, the one who is preparing the way.
The Mahdi is the prophesied redeemer of Islam who will stay on Earth for seven, nine or nineteen years (according to various interpretations) before the Day of Judgment (yawm al-qiyamah / literally the Day of Resurrection) and, alongside Jesus and will rid the world of wrongdoing, injustice and tyranny.
In 2004 while Mayor of Tehran Ahmadinejad secretly instructed the city council to build a grand avenue to prepare for the Mahdi. A year later, as president, he allocated $17 million for a blue-tiled mosque closely associated with mahdaviat in Jamkaran, south of the capital. He has instigated the building of a direct Tehran-Jamkaran railroad line. He had a list of his proposed cabinet members dropped into a well adjacent to the Jamkaran mosque, it is said, to benefit from its purported divine connection.
Ahmadinejad has even claimed that he has had divine influence on other world leaders, after a speech at the U.N he claimed that “and for those 27 or 28 minutes, the leaders of the world did not blink. … And they were rapt. It seemed as if a hand was holding them there and had opened their eyes to receive the message from the Islamic republic”.
If an open conflict with the U.S and Israel breaks out he will clearly use this as a rally cry for Islam in an attempt to paint secular rule as the great Satan. Ahmadinejad has received an open offer for diplomacy with the west and has insulted the U.S. on the floor of the U.N. claiming that the U.S staged the attacks of 9/11 to ensure the survival of Israel.
Ahmadinejad, who has in the past voiced his doubts about a terrorist group being able to carry out these attacks and questions the U.S. version of the Sept. 11 attacks, called for establishment of an independent fact-finding U.N. body to probe the attacks and stop it from turning into another sacred issue where “expressing opinion about it won’t be banned”.
Plagued by economic problems and a growing dissent among the countries youth with the country direction and lack of freedoms, Ahmadinejad finds himself more and more defending his rule than expanding it. History shows clearly that his rule is limited and his time finite, the only question is how much damage he will do before that time ends and ends badly.
