Washington may be a mess. Albany may be a mess. City Hall may be a mess. But that doesn’t mean New Yorkers have to live in a dump. And it certainly doesn’t mean that New York City school children should have to settle for a second class educational environment.
With more and more strain on public resources and city, state, and federal budgets there has never been a better time to give back to your community.
New York Cares Day is Saturday, October 23rd. New York Cares Day is New York Cares largest, most mobilized, day of the year-bringing together more than 8,000 volunteers citywide. The all-day serve-a-thon revitalizes more than 100 New York City Public Schools and raises funds for the organizations 11,000 yearly volunteer projects serving more than 400,000 New Yorkers.
New York Cares Day brings thousands of volunteers to help revitalize schools. With fewer staff and fewer funds, New York City schools are forced to place more and more projects on the back burner. Help out by painting classrooms, murals, and building exteriors. Help organize libraries, classroom materials, and help fix broken equipment. Help plant gardens and flower beds and start other projects to help beautify rundown school spaces. Truly brighten up the day to day environments of New York City students, children, and school teachers.
New York Cares Day is a great opportunity for area businesses to develop team-building exercises and give back to the community. The event is also provides a great opportunity for employees to connect with clients and customers on a personal level. By collecting pledges and donations for upcoming New York Cares events, clients and customers learn about your company’s commitments and passions.
The October 23rd event kicks off at 9AM with orientation and project assignment. From 10AM till lunch break, volunteers fulfill their projects. After lunch, the groups reorganize and double their efforts to finish the started projects by 3PM.
