In the south, where I live, they have a fabulous product called Goody Powders. These powdered aspirins, however bitter and repulsive, work well to knock a headache out in minutes. They boxed aspirin powders are not sold all over America but many boxed products, similar in size and shape to the Goody’s, are. Assorted small boxes are easily turned into gift boxes for birthdays, holidays, weddings, baby showers and more, and wow, the recipients will really be impressed!
Choose the box you want to use. It can be one that has a removeable lid or one that has two end flaps. If the box has a lid you’ll cut an image into it. If the box has end flaps you’ll cut the image out on the front. The image you select instantly sets the theme for the window box. Use coloring book pictures, stencils or other methods to draw a design on the box. Keep the design simplistic. Go with something really simple, like a geometric shape or something a little more impressive, like the outline of a Christmas tree.
Paint the box or wrap it with decorative paper or even fabric. Glue cloth or fabric to the box completely. Use a craft knife to cut out the image from the front of the box (or box lid). Take care to make smooth edges. Instead of holding the knife straight up and down as you cut, tilt it slightly to the right (or to the left if you’re left-handed), and you’ll get a more beveled cut that looks professional.
Use a piece of clear or colored cellophane, found at craft stores, to cover the window. If you want the recipient to be able to look through the window and see the gift the clear cellophane is a perfect choice. But, if you want a shiny, cellophane window on the box, but you don’t want others to see through it, choose a darker color of cellophane.
Cut a piece of cellophane that’s almost as large as the whole side (or lid) of the box. Tape or glue this piece over the image window, from the inside. Now simply slide the gift into the box and position it in front of the window. If needed, a small piece of double-sided tape, or even a piece of rubber shelf liner, can keep the object inside in front of the window.
The cute window boxes can hold a cupcake, cookies, candy, a gift card or cash, make-up, jewelry, a stuffed animal or other toy, lingerie, scarves or mittens and many other things. They’re appropriate for giving a gift to anyone and on any occasion!
