Now, your Halloween costume will not contain human hair, but there is enough synthetic hair out there in the form of wigs, falls, and pony tail extensions that look just as good as real hair.
The first thing you need is the hair. This is not as hard as you think it is going to be to acquire. Wigs and fake pony tail extensions are plentiful this time of year. Any discount store, beauty outlet, department store, or drug store carries these items.
You may even have a few wigs around your home or a friend or family member may have a few old ones they would be happy to give away.
Pick one color, two colors, or get real exotic and go multi colored with the fake hair. You will need four long haired wigs and four pony tail extensions for this costume.
You will also need a nude colored sleeveless leotard top and any color fish net stockings. You will also need transparent thread and a large sewing needle along with a bag of small thin elastics.
Stretch the leotard over a round laundry basket that best imitates the size of the person’s torso who is going to be wearing the Lady Gaga’s hair dress Halloween costume.
No laundry basket, then use a laundry hamper, waste basket, or any other cylinder shaped object that you have in your home.
Cut the hair off the wig in one inch thick bunches, one at a time. Cut one bunch, tie it together at the top with a small elastic, cut another and tie it off, continue until you have cut all the hair off the wigs. Make sure you cut it as close to the scalp of the wig to make the hair pieces as long as you can get them.
With the clear thread and needle, attach these pieces to the leotard, with just a few in and out stitches on each piece. Don’t put them in a line, randomly sew them onto the leotard until it the leotard is covered with hair. You want an uneven shaggy look.
The long ponytail extensions need to be cut in 5 even pieces and tied off with elastics. Sew these pieces along the bottom of the leotard one up, one down, so the hair will fall at different lengths all over the top of the legs. Ten pieces for the front of the leotard and ten pieces for the back will do the trick. Your costume is done!
Wear the fishnets, spiked heels and the hair leotard for the Lady Gaga hair dress costume. If you want some fun accessories, try hanging a blow dryer off a belt, make earrings out of two small light combs, or dress it up with a tool belt or holster full of hair products. This is a prize winner for any Halloween costume contest!
