This morning God Calling encourages us to, at the end of each day, take the pains and difficulties of that day and make of them an offering to the Lord, on behalf someone else who may be suffering or have a special need. The lesson, really, is about thinking of others in the midst of our own pain, difficulties and suffering. Just the other day, when reminded of the MS possibility becoming a reality in my life, I prayed and asked the Lord not to allow that thing to come onto my children or grandchildren. I said, “Lord, I’ll take twice the suffering” – I’d take a hundred times that for my children-“if I have to have it; just don’t let it come onto my children or grandchildren.” However, I think, on a better note, I can offer myself-my “suffering”, my prayer up to bring about a cure, so that nobody’s child or grandchild ever has to suffer with it. I’m ashamed now at my limited thinking in which I limited God and His love and power. Forgive me, Lord, and please amend my prayer. Don’t get me wrong, I believe in healing and believe that I walk in divine health. But, God is also sovereign-and if that’s a “thorn” that’s going to be in my flesh, then I guess His Grace will be sufficient for me as well, and it will be my opportunity to allow His strength to be made perfect in my weakness. That’s exactly what happens when we think of others in the midst of our own difficulties, needs, and suffering.
Thinking of others in the midst of our own suffering is one of the most powerful expressions of God’s love you can see-in that, as you are wrapping your arms around another, you are setting in motion that “anyway” factor. What you’re saying is, “Yes, I’m suffering, yes I’m hurting, yes, I’m bowed down, but I’m still going to praise You, Lord. I’m still going to honor you, Lord. I’m still going to love; yes, I will do those things anyway. When you wrap your arms around another in that suffering, you wrap the cords of God’s Love around that situation, and as you do that, you cut loose those “Earth strands” that have tried to entangle you. You cut loose every cord that would pull you down and defeat you.
