This article will cover the unique weapon known as Maria in Fallout New Vegas. This weapon is a unique 9mm pistol, meaning only a single copy of it exists in the game. Maria is the pistol used by the character known as Benny, the gun that was used to “kill” you in the opening sequence.
Maria is a nickel plated 9mm pistol, with an inscribed ivy vine like pattern and gems affixed in various places. The handle has an Ivory grip, with a painting of Our Lady Guadalupe. Quite the flashy gun, with a very strong mobster feel to it.

How to get it
Since that weasel Benny has this weapon on him, you will have to find a forceful way of removing it from him. You will run into him during the quest Ring-A-Ding-Ding in the Topps Casino in the New Vegas Strip. Stealing it off of him is possible, but the trick is finding the right opportunity, since he begins guarded by 4 hired men in the casino lobby, and depending on how you confront him, can evade capture. A Stealth Boy can give you an open opportunity to loot it during his stay at the lobby.
My preferred method requires a speech of 60, which can be boosted to with magazines or the right apparel if your base skill isn’t there yet. Talk Benny into heading up to the presidential suites with you, leaving his guards behind as part of the deal. Make sure to bring some companions as this will help immensely, not to mention sneaking in a switchblade past the casino desk, since all your heavier weapons will be stripped without a sufficient sneak skill.
Once you’re up in the suite with him, you can chat him up real quick, but don’t fall for his ploys at distracting from your goals of revenge. Jump him then and there, making him pay for trying to end you. With 2 companions he should go down without a problem, then loot his corpse for Maria.
Maria is not only quite the flashy piece, but is excellent for use on the less armored wasteland enemies. A great option to fall back on when you’re running out of the other more widely used ammo types. Being a pistol it is unfortunately quite worthless against enemies like death claws, or likewise heavily armored creatures. Easy to keep in repair thanks to all the 9mm pistols you will likely find in the wasteland, as they are quite common. Last but not least it has one of the lowest AP costs for ranged weapons, so you’re going to get a lot of VATS shots in.
