Ever since Marvel Comics started its own movie studio, called Marvel Entertainment, we have seen and will continue to see an awesome bunch of Super-Heroes coming to the big screen. But there are a few Super-Heroes that Marvel Entertainment did not get the rights to do. What will happen to these movies? If the studios choose to not make a new movie the rights will slip back to Marvel. But, of course what movie studio will just give up the rights to pretty decent money maker? Most likely none will give up the rights. At this point you may be asking yourself what these Marvel movies might be.
Spider-Man: The movie franchise belongs to Sony. The first three were directed by Sam Raimi and during the course of the first two movies the fans wanted to see Venom. Raimi was always reluctant, and this is evident in his 2007 appearance at Comic-Con, to include Venom. And this is probably why, according to many fans, the movie was bad. That being said the movie still grossed over 336 million dollars. Raimi was supposed to come back for Spider-Man 4 but the studio wanted to go a different direction in what I like to call Spider-Man the Reboot. Now, there will be a new cast and a new script is being developed. Marc Webb will direct and Andrew Garfield will be the new Spider-Man. According to imbd.com it is slated for release in 2012.
X-Men: This one is movie along at a fast pace. The new X-Men movie will be called X-Men: First Class and currently almost finished casting. X-Men: First Class will focus more on the relationship between Charles Xavier and Magneto. We will see many heroes and villains this time around as it has to do with the Hellfire Club: An aristocratic mutant society. It will be directed by Matthew Vaughn, who also directed Kick-Ass and Layer Cake. Actors such as Kevin Bacon and James McAvoy have signed up. McAvoy will play Charles Xavier and Kevin Bacon is rumored to play Sebastian Shaw, leader of the Hellfire Club. X-Men: First Class is scheduled to be released on June 3rd 2011.
Ghost Rider: Not much is known about this project yet. It will be called Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. Rumor says that Nicolas Cage will reprise his role but nothing concrete has come to light just yet. Come back later for more info. Imdb.com has a released date of 2011 but with no cast announced I do not see that as a possibility.
Fantastic Four: After the rather sub-par films it seems Fantastic Four will just be remade with a new cast. Little else is known but a rumor floating about does have the Silver Surfer in it. So, maybe even though we may see a new cast it might be Fantastic Four part 3 in disguise.
Hopefully these new interpretations will be better that the last. Only time will tell and we will all judge for ourselves.
