Matt Kuchar beat Martin Laird in a playoff to win the 2010 Barclay’s golf tournament Sunday August, 29th after both men finished 72 holes tied at -12. Kevin Streelman and Steve Stricker finished tied for third at -10. Tigers Woods shot a 67 in the final round to put him at -7 for the tourney, tied for 12th on the leaderboard.
Matt Kuchar Wins Barclay’s
Kuchar finished his round on Sunday with a 5-under 66, but it didn’t look as though it would be enough as Laird had a one-shot lead and just needed two putts from inside 25 feet for the victory. However, Laird knocked his putt 7 feet past the hole and missed the par putt, setting up the playoff.
The playoff just lasted one hole as Kuchar made a brilliant approach shot to give him an eight foot putt for birdie, which he drained, and Laird could only come up with par.
With the win today Kuchar moves into first place in current FedEx Cup standings. Kuchar will be leading the pack of the top 100 who have advanced to the second round of the FedEx Cup next week at the Deutsche Bank Championship.
Tiger Woods Improves at the Barclay’s
Tiger Woods seems to be finding his game again as he shot four respectable rounds at the Barclay’s tournament this weekend. His first round score was a sizzling 65 97 under), which was good enough to be tied for the lead, but he slipped a bit in the second ad third rounds, just managing a 72 and 73 on Friday and Saturday, respectively. He came back strong on Sunday, however, with a 67, good for -4, and leaving him in a tie for 12th place overall. That result was good enough to propel him from 112th to 65th in the FedEx cup standings and he moves on to the second round at the Deutsche Bank Championship next week.
