Wow! I got blindsided last week. I finished at 6-8 – a combination of risky picks on my part and “sure things” that fell through did me in. But, as a semi-adult I must take responsibility and suck it up. Maybe this week I’ll take a few less risks……nah, where’s the fun in that.
Atlanta at Cleveland – Atlanta needed a last second screw-up by the ‘Niners to get over their New Orleans hangover. The Browns broke through after several close calls. If this were in November I might go the other way. Falcons 31-17.
New Orleans at Arizona – The Saints offense is really missing Reggie Bush. The Cardinals are missing Kurt Warner. New Orleans still has Drew Brees…and a stifling D. Saints 27-10.
Denver at Baltimore – Will the Ravens have a let down after their big victory over the Steelers? Could be. I know their pass defense will be tested by Orton and Co. If Knowshon is back and the Broncos get a ground game going….Denver 24-14.
Jacksonville at Buffalo – The Bills are another “oh-so-close” team. Jacksonville is coming off a big win and could be looking ahead to a Monday night showdown with the Titans. The Bills aren’t quite there. Jaguars 24-19.
Chicago at Carolina – The Bears are without starting QB Jay Cutler. The Panthers are breaking in a rookie. This one could get ugly. Carolina played New Orleans tough last week – and I’m not so sold on the Bears. Upset Alert – Panthers 24-21.
Tampa Bay at Cincinnati – It’s a bit surprising that these two teams are both hovering around .500. The Buccs have been better than expected, but the Bengals have been hard to pin down. Tampa Bay is coming off a bye week. The extra rest pays off. Buccaneers 17-14.
St. Louis at Detroit – The Rams are riding the arm of their young QB phenom, Sam Bradford. The Lions are so very close, but can’t find the end zone consistently enough. It’s a little over confidence versus a lot of hungry in this one. Lions finally break through 42-38.
NY Giants at Houston – It’s a tough Giant D against the offensive juggernaut. Matt Schaub has plenty of weapons, and Eli Manning seems to be on the decline. Texans 30-17.
Kansas City at Indianopolis – Nobody could have foreseen a 2-2 start for the Colts…or a 3-0 start for the Chiefs. The Chiefs are coming off a bye and the Colts can’t stop the run. Fresh legs prevail. Chiefs 24-21.
Green Bay at Washington – Mike Shanahan has the Redskins on the right track – they’re just terribly inconsistent right now. Without Ryan Grant, look for Aaron Rodgers to throw about 35 passes. Packers 34-14.
Tennessee at Dallas – The Cowboys needed the off week to shake off the bludgeoning they have received to start the season. Two streaks are on the line in this one – Dallas has won five in a row coming off a bye week, and the Titans have won 10 straight against NFC opponents. The difference is coaching. Titans 24-17.
San Diego at Oakland – The Chargers finally looked like a contender – and they usually dominate the Raiders. A loss at Oakland could put them looking for a Wild Card slot. Chargers 28-10.
Philadelphia at San Francisco – Two pretty disappointing teams. I know the ‘Niners snatched defeat from the jaws of victory last week – but their offense has been pretty pedestrian. The Eagles troubles are exemplified by the fact that the fans are wishing Michael Vick were healthy. San Francisco 21-14.
NY Jets at Minnesota – The “antique road show” comes home…with a new addition. “Ole” Bret has a new toy in “Not-quite-as-old” Randy Moss. The Jets D will have Favre on his backside all day, pushing him one game closer to hanging them up. Jets 31-21.
