Court proceedings were held Wednesday, November 10, 2010 in regards to Mel Gibson and Oksana Grigorieva’s baby, Lucia. The public figures are in a custody battle for their infant daughter. Court proceedings are set to reconvene on November 22 in regards to this custody case.
The trouble between the two was first made public through an alleged violent fight, that reportedly took place in January 2010. Even though she took months to report the issue, L.A. county deputies are investigating, but currently no charges have been filed.
On June 23, 2010, Gibson released a statement regarding the alleged abuse. His story varies from that of Grigorieva. He claims she was “hysterical” and was recklessly swinging Lucia from side to side. According to FoxNews.com, Gibson slapped her lightly just to bring her back to reality. It wasn’t a hard slap, “I did not hit Oksana with a closed fist, as she alleges. I did not ever punch her in the face or in the temple or anywhere else, not then or at any other time.”, Gibson stated.
Grigorieva’s taped session on the Larry King Live show was originally set to air last week, but for unknown reasons has been set for November 16th. This is another platform that Gibson’s ex can voice the alleged abuse. The judge presiding over the custody hearings told Oksana that if she did media, she might pay when it comes to awarding custody , according to Oksana’s team. Not taking the judge’s warning very seriously, she and her lawyer completed the interview.
The interview was originally scheduled for 30 minutes, but has been stretched to a full hour. It is reported that King will be playing the audio racial rants of Gibson, secretly taped by Grigorieva.
Larry King did get the first interview, as Oprah was turned down for the premiere. This won’t be the last time Grigorieva will be featured in the news. Having joined with Peace Over Violence, she has planned a number of upcoming interviews to share her ordeal. Grigorieva gave the interview because “she feels she’s been silent too long and feels bad for other battered women if she stays silent”.
Gibson has stayed quiet, with the exception of the statement given recently. It will be interesting to see if Gibson takes his side public as well. Also interesting is the outcome of the custody battle. It will be unfortunate if Grigorieva’s lack of respect for the judge’s order causes her primary custody.
The Larry King Live interview will air November 16, 2010 on CNN. Check your local listings.
