Part 1 of a new series on abused men
We started our topic with abused children and went on to abused women, now it is time to take a look at abused men. There is little media coverage, but it is in fact. a serious reality. We will always see coverage on abused male children whether they are battered, emotionally abused, or sexually abused, but what about the men that are abused at home and behind closed doors by the woman they married and love? The Montreal media very rarely reports on this very important issue.
Abuse has no gender
Abuse whether physical or mental destroys the body and destroys the soul. It eats at the heart and takes away all the joy of living. Abuse knows no gender or age; a child can be abused, a woman can be abused, or a man can be abused. Most people know about child abuse, woman abuse, and elder abuse, but very few people look at a strong young healthy man and think that he can get hurt. They fail to realize that everyone on the face of this earth can be hurt by the affairs of the heart and they can be sexually and physically abused as well. The fact that we are human gives us the range of emotions that we have. They are giving to men as much as they are given to women.
The only difference is that men often suffer in silence afraid to admit that they are being abused. They are afraid to tell, in a society that does not defend the male side of a domestic dispute. According to StatsCan, (statistics Canada) women are two and a half times more likely to report domestic abuse than men. This makes it very difficult to actually figure out how many men are abused in Canada and how many men are abused in Montreal. The statistics for the USA should not be much different as the Canadian and American Culture is pretty much the same in this aspect.
