Well. Let’s face it. This one’s going to go viral. In fact, it already has.
Self-proclaimed femme fatale, wife of French president, Nicholas Sarkozy and France’s First Lady, Carla Bruni, has penned a tell-all book where she quotes Michelle Obama as saying the job of First Lady of the United States is “hell”.
First of all, I can hardly imagine that France’s First Lady, Ms. Bruni, would be so indiscreet. Yet, if it’s in a book and she has her name on it, um, what else can you say?
This story is burning up the Internet, which first began in Europe, published by the UK Daily Mail. As one would imagine, our first lady is not garnering much sympathy. It should be interesting to hear how the White House handles this one.
Personally, I’ve been utterly amazed at how “behind the scenes”, Michelle Obama has been. One only has to hear her speak once to gather that she’s no wall-flower and she is going to let you know what she thinks about something. You may recall she ignited a firestorm during the presidential campaign when she stated that for the “first time in her adult life, she’s proud of her country”.
Erm, yeah. Not really a cool thing to say, Michelle. Especially since you were vying for the title of First Lady. Which would mean, of course, that you would be representing everyone in the United States of America – even those who are proud of their country. Awkward.
Since the election, Michelle Obama has been conveniently muzzled and kept busy doing things that would bolster her image as a First Lady. I think the White House has done a pretty good job of that, frankly. Because, she certainly hasn’t said or done anything that has been offensive or detrimental to the office of the presidency. (Besides, her husband has done a pretty good job of that all by himself.) That is, of course, until now.
Truthfully, given the impression that I’ve gotten from Michelle Obama when I have heard her speak, I wouldn’t be shocked to learn that she actually did say it. I have never felt the Obama’s and their administration loved this country. I have felt, as millions of other Americans do, that the Obama’s feel this nation needs to be something different. Something other than what it is and what it has been. And of course, that we should apologize for it.
On the one hand, I certainly understand some of their grievances. Yes, we are a nation that is rife with injustice and let’s just call it out, shall we – racism. Having grown up in the Deep South, one would have to be a fool to deny that racism exists in this country and has for a very long time.
But, where I part from the Obama’s is that mankind and his Utopian, political notions, will never free this nation or any nation from evil. It is a problem that is rooted deep in the psyche and consciousness of humanity. Remember: Cain slew Able.
But, that is another philosophical conversation for another day. Today, I’m wondering if Michelle Obama will be accepting any future invitations from Carla Bruni to chat over a glass of French Bordeaux. Somehow, I think not.
CBS News.com is reporting that the White House has issued a statement that Michelle Obama did not say this. Also according to the report, Carla Bruni is distancing herself from the Daily Mail report, calling the biography unauthorized and untrue.
