The annual Pumpkin Festival at California State Polytechnic University (Cal Poly) Pomona, in Los Angeles County, California, takes place only one weekend in mid-October. This year the festival will be on Saturday and Sunday, October 16th and 17th, 2010, at 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. For updated information in future years, visit them online at www.csupomona.edu.
The Cal Poly Pomona Pumpkin Festival is held every year at their Farm Store, and promises an action-packed weekend, with free admission for every member of your family! Come early for the festival kick-off pancake breakfast, Saturday morning from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. (adults $5.00, children $4.00, 12 and under).
Although festival admission and the live entertainment are free, there will be a charge for most of the individual activities. Some of the pay-to-play activities, for all ages, include horse rides, getting lost in a corn maze, and picking your pumpkin right out of their pumpkin patch.
Choose a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch for a cost of $5.00, for a beach-ball size pumpkin, or select 5 pumpkins for $20.00! You may want to bring your child’s wagon, to cart around your pumpkins (and kids) while enjoying the rest of the fair.
Along with all the food, games, pumpkins, and entertainment, there are even more great activities for your children. You will have to take them to the petting zoo, to learn more about farm animals (a rarity in the greater Los Angeles area) as well as the popular Insect Fair!
The festival’s Insect Fair is always the best (creepiest) fun, you or your children could ever hope for. Featuring almost 500,000 living and preserved bugs, insects, and creatures with fur (tarantulas)! Prices for this creepy, crawly exhibit are $6.00 for adults, $4.00 for students and kids 3-12 years, children 2 and under are free.
