Thirty-three Chilean miners have been trapped for three weeks in an underground shelter. With the possibility of a rescue taking maybe 4 months, the miners are amazingly healthy. How do authorities know this? The Miners have been able to send notes.
The copper and gold mine caved in August 5th, and the miners are approximately 2300 feet below the surface. The shelter they are trapped in is made for just that, “just in case”, so there should be food and water and supplies already within the shelter.
Because the mine could collapse or cave in again at any time, the rescue efforts will be very slow to ensure the miners safety. The families of the miners are very grateful that so far everyone is okay.
Being a miner is a very dangerous job, and as we know, these collapses happen more often then we would like to admit. These miners could be trapped until December. I am not a very religious woman, but a prayer definitely goes out to these miners and their families.
