It’s only fitting that these events have to begin somewhere. Miss America and Miss Teen USA all begin in cities and towns around America with the smartest and prettiest and most talented young ladies come together and show off their skills at being…pretty and smart and talented. But pretty, for sure.
All kidding aside the Miss Brooklyn and Brooklyn’s Outstanding Teen competitions held over the weekend in Fort Greene brought out the best and the brightest in the borough. There was even a new category added to the Miss Brooklyn Scholarship Organization: Miss County Queen.
As reported in YourNabe (1) “The winners – all of whom received scholarships, crowns, sashes and major bragging rights – demonstrated that beauty and brains go hand in hand, wowing judges with their grace, attention to duty and capacity for community work.”
Christina Moore, 20, from Bensonhurst was named “Miss Brooklyn.” Lauren Mollela, 15, from Dutchess County, took home the crown for “Outstanding Teen,” and Carmen Mendoza, 23, from Park Slope was named “Miss County Queen.” Brittney Hollingsworth, 15, from Crown Heights also took home “Brooklyn’s Outstanding Teen,” award for her volunteer work with Youth Engaged in Service.
Next up? Miss New York and Miss Teen New York! The States, in June!
