Knowing the mohawk hairstyle is a huge hit this year 2010, some mothers might need help with their baby’s mohawk. If you get lucky, some babies hair is naturally this style when they are born, while others might not be until they are at least 7-10 months old.
Being a mom of three and a beautician I have many advantages when it comes to styling my kids hair. However, when they were younger I still followed the rules and only applied certain products in their hair and scalp. Yes, it took more thinking and creativity to find out what items or remedies were safe for the hair, but also helped create style and hold, especially for styles like the mohawk, spikes, or curls.
I know some parents feel hairspray or gel would be fine for the hair, but it can actually cause dryness on the scalp, allergic reactions, or breathing issues. Knowing this information, what products can I use to make my babies hair stick up and stay in place?
Use A Safe Baby Lotion
Try and find a hypoallergenic and non-fragranced lotion. If it’s safe to use on the skin, then it’s safe for the hair and scalp too. Apply a small amount of the lotion into your hands. Rub hands together and place into hairstyle. Make sure to rub the product all over then stick it up. Allow the lotion to settle in, and apply another drop to the style only. Do not rub this time. This can be done on wet or dry hair, but preferably on dry works better.
Now with this product please do not go overboard with it. Using your fingertip dip it into the jar. Rub your fingers together and create the style. A small amount will go a long way.
Water And Lemon Juice
Use 1/2 cap of lemon juice and mix it with water. Boil it, and allow it to cool down for 15 minutes. Do not use 1 full fresh lemon, or more than 1/2 cap or you might end up with lighter hair in certain areas.
Use Egg Whites To Create Mohawk
Yeah a lot of people use Elmer’s glue, gelatin, or Aloe, but the eggs are so much easier. Grab a few eggs, and just whip up the whites. Mix it very well, and carefully apply to the hair. Make sure to rub it in well, and then create the style of spikes or mohawk on your baby.
Honey, Water, And A Dab Of Sunscreen
The good old honey will help hold the hair in place and also give the hair shine. Using the sunscreen as a barrier for protection, and also hold. Mix a little bit of each into a bowl, and place into hair. Do not go crazy with the honey, because it’s so thick and gooey.
Not only is this good to get rid of tired puffy eyes, it’s also good to use in the hair for shine and hold. Just like any other lubricant, do not use too much or your hair will look extremely greasy and it will be hard to wash out.
