Enter a world of darkness and forbidden love . . .
Vladimir Dracula, born to a gypsy woman who was seduced by Lucifer, returns home to his clan after fourteen years of exile. Upon his return, Vlad discovers his cousin Vashti, with whom he shares a mysterious bond, seeks his death.
Vashti struggles against Vlad’s alluring sensuality in order to avenge her father’s death. Once she learns of his taste for the purest of wines – blood – Vashti discovers how deeply they are bonded.
As Prince of Wallachia, Vlad leads an army against the Turks, while he fights to keep his soul from Lucifer’s grasp. To save Vashti from the ensuing darkness, he vows to sacrifice his own life… and his immortal soul. Vashti must convince him that by sacrificing himself, Vlad condemns them both…
“I fight with a legion of angels at my back, demon. And when we are through, every man, woman and child who has died at the end of your sword, will be avenged when the heavens rattle with your agonizing screams from Hell. You will suffer for eternity. This I know, this I live for.” Vashti wanted to look away, but the emotions crossing Vlad’s face captivated her attention. Regret, disappoinment, and hatred contorted Vlad’s magnificence into something hideous. Truly, he was her enemy, the enemy of every innocent soul.
Vlad touched her left cheek as his silver-slitted black eyes scorched her flesh. “You speak lightly of suffering, Vashti. Will your faith remain strong when your body reeks from weeks of blood, sweat, and filth? Will your faith hold fast when hunger twists and forces your empty belly to feed upon itself? I will teach you of suffering, sweet Princess. And you will learn.” Vlad’s hand ran up her face and into her hair. His fingers curled brutally, sending fiery pain shooting through her scalp.
Vashti pressed her lips together to keep from crying out as he dragged her to her feet.
“Will you find your god in the dankness of you new home?” he spoke of the dungeon where she had held him captive. “Your Prince commands and you obey. Betray me and I’ll grant you no mercy.”
Once he had her chained to the grimy wall, Vlad pushed away from her and turned towards the open door. The light from the torch flickered across his back. A cry erupted from Vashti. A lifetime of scars striped the entire length of his back and buttocks. Tears of despair flooded her eyes. She swallowed hard, trying to school heer trembling voice.
“Vladimir?” When she whispered his name, he halted but did not turn to face her. “Will you make me pay for what has been done to you? Will you take a lash to my . . body as they have done to you?” Del (God), who had done such a thing to him?
“Ahhh, your faith waivers so soon?”
A single tear ran down Vashti’s cheek, for she was unable to answer him. Then he was gone. . . . . . .
