Morals are concerned with principles of right and wrong behaviors, or the nature of ethics and the foundations of good and bad character. God has equipped us with the knowledge of what is right and what is wrong, and has empowered us with the choice to pursue either. As I have always argued, we can exercise this power of choice, but we must keep in mind that, we don’t have the power to choose the consequences or rewards that come with our choices. To help us make the right choices, God put in place people and systems in our lives that help us choose wisely. Teachers, spiritual leaders, elder brothers and sisters, friends, and parents, who offer the mentoring we need to make better choices for ourselves.
However, irrespective of the systems to redirect our paths, America has been on a high gear in moral degradation. Certainly, what seemed very wrong is now embraced as moral and the doers actively pursue their rights on these issues. Homosexuality, abortion (unnecessary), divorce, pornography, just to mention a few have been accepted by the society and accorded high status. What I find annoying, is that the people who consider themselves Christians are actually in the forefront in promoting these agendas. No wonder we are considered as hypocrites by other religions. What can they emulate from us, if all they see is moral decal on high gear? Think of decay, in actuality, decay is a process. It starts with decline in quality or vigor and the rotting process begins with the action of bacteria and fungi. When a fruit begins to decay, it affects the rest, and the rotting process picks up on high gear. Morals have followed this process in our society and the gears have been shifted up through the media. What will become of our generations to come, if our families are failing to hold intact, violent electronic games being advertised to the young, leading to violence and murder in our communities, pornography and prostitution are promoted by evil minded, perverted businessmen?
It time to wake up and pray my fellow Christians. Without God in our lives and in our country, our society will continue experiencing entropy but at a highly accelerated rate. We can reverse the process of decay and start building morals back to our society, pick up the fragments and rebuild our core values. Yes, we have ignored God in our day to day lives, the government arena, school systems, and churches and even in our families, that materialism and indulgence in worldly pleasures have taken priority over Him but it is never too late. We can stop production of pornographic material that is making people be so entwined with this perversion that their minds are being warped and deluded. We can stop homosexuality that is making men lust over their own, prostitution that is misguiding girls with the lure of materialism, drugs that are giving our teenagers a delusion of paradise at the expense of their well-being. It is never too late. The Bible says what is bound hear on earth is bound in heaven, and if you and I agree on earth concerning anything that we ask, it will be done for us by our Father in heaven, (Mathew 18:18 – 19). “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14, we have to humble ourselves, pray and seek His face, and must turn away from our wicked ways, that God will shield us from destruction.
