Fort Myers, Florida- Noemi Ramos, 40, has been arrested for abusing and trafficking her 4 daughters. The 4 sisters ages 9-20 were prostituted, beaten and starved by their mother Noemi Ramos. In a case that DCF ( Department of Children and Families) has investigated for nearly a decade, an end to the immediate abuse seems at hand. Noemi Ramos has been charged with 4 counts of human trafficking and 4 counts of child abuse.
If you have the time and stomach for it, you can read the arrest affidavit and warrant for Noemi Ramos here. As one girl after another gives her account of the lives they have literally been forced to live, one has to turn away from the reading from time to time. To take all of the abuse in at one sitting is nearly impossible.
The nutshell version goes like this. Noemi Ramos was injured in a fall and was given some pain killers. When the pills were gone, Noemi could not get them refilled. She needed more drugs so she sent her 4 daughters out on the street to certain drug dealers to purchase drugs for her. The girls would then hide the pills on themselves and take them back to Ramos. The girls were filled with fear of getting caught by the police. What started out to be a couple of times a month escalated to several times a day.
To read the girls’ accounts of life at home is more than disturbing. The cupboards were usually bare. If there was food, it was Noemi Ramos who decide if and who would be allowed to eat it. Beatings were given using belts and the pointed end of broomsticks. Electrical appliance cords were used like whips to discipline the 4 sisters. A hammer was used on a couple of the girls and glass was broken on one.
In the affidavit it isn’t absolutely clear who endured the sexual abuse. But prostituting at least one girl for money/drugs is clear. Ramos would send the girls to a park where they were met by men and she told them to be “nice” to the men and bring home the money. She also gave marijuana, cocaine and booze parties that Noemi Ramos herself did not attend. Instead she would leave at least 1 daughter there alone with men.
The girls said “no” to Noemi Ramos at times. When they did, they paid a heavy price in the form of beatings and being denied food. They are now with the father of the 2 youngest sisters. Allegedly, he has been accused of domestic abuse. Noemi Ramos’ mother says there’s no truth to what’s being said about her daughter. Is there anywhere SAFE and SANE that these girls can go?
A $200,000 bond has been set for Noemi Ramos. DCF is keeping a close “watch” on the 4 daughters living with the father. And 4 girls, trying to forget a lifetime nightmare are being made to relive it all again, publicly. Memories of abuse and human trafficking allegedly inflicted on them by their own mother will never go away.
