Mother/Daughter bonding is so important to keep your relationship thriving, and what better time than Winter? The holidays are a perfect time to get together with just the girls and celebrate your family and womanhood.
Winter is the perfect time to dig out all of your fun baking sheets and cookie cutters. No matter what age your daughter is, baking can be a fun activity to do together. Young girls enjoy the cookie cutters while teens and tweens would love to try new recipes with you! Why not go to the book store together and pick out a fun cookbook for just the two of you. Go shopping together for all the ingredients and spend a weekend trying all of the new recipes.
Tip: You can find a lot of cookie cutters and other baking tools at Dollar Tree or other dollar variety stores. There is no need to spend a lot of money to have a fun baking weekend with just the girls! Or if you’re willing to spend a little money and want something unique, cookiecutter.com has hundreds of fun shapes and styles.
Girls Only Spa Day
A spa day at home is a perfect winter break activity for your tweens, teens and young adult daughters. It gives you a chance to bond, laugh and share stories while pampering each other. You can find a home spa kit at Walmart, Target or online pretty easily enough, or go one step further and make everything from home.
Ambience: Create a relaxing atmosphere by lighting scented candles, playing music you both enjoy or even scattering flower petals around the room.
Spa Activities: Manicures, Pedicures, Foot Massages, Hair/Makeup Makeovers and Facial Masks are all a lot of fun to do at home with your mother/daughter.
How much fun would it be to break out the Dance Dance Revolution game your daughter is sure to have and dance with her? You can dance in teams, competitions or free style it. If you don’t have a game to play, throw on some fun music and dance around your living room. During your daughters winter break from school, tell the boys to go do manly things and turn on her favorite music, I bet you can entice her to join in!
My favorite thing to do as a young girl was to make things with my mom. She is really creative and was always coming up with fun activities to do. During every Winter break we would take a trip to Michael’s and pick out various materials and make up our own projects. It was always my favorite part of vacation and it’s easy to make this a new tradition for you and your daughter. Whether she enjoys drawing/painting, scrapbooking, making jewelry or doing general crafts, this can be a fun and affordable indoor activity to do over Winter break.
You may not always like the same things, but a compromise is always a good thing. Why not take one day during winter break and trade off doing things you each enjoy. Let her teach you how to play some of her video games and do your hair, and you can dig out your old prom dresses for a fashion show or let her listen to the music you grew up with. This can be a fun bonding activity and a great way to learn more about each other.
