My husband recently went off on a week long moose hunting trip. He was out in the Alaskan wilderness, and packing light was essential. Most of his meals were Mountain House entrees, and one of his favorites was their Beef Stroganoff with Noodles.
Luckily, Mountain House entrees are sold at our local Walmart store, which happens to be just a few miles away, and I am thankful that Walmart carries these great tasting, freeze dried meals. They are sort of expensive, retailing for around $5.79 each, but each bag serves two people, and considering the convenience factor, they are worth every penny.
Mountain House Beef Stroganoff with Noodles comes in a silver and blue 4.8 ounce colored bag, and it contains everything you need for a tasty meal, you only have to add boiling water. My husband had a camp stove so that he could easily boil water, but that is all he had to do to prepare this delicious tasting entree of Beef Stroganoff with Noodles.
To prepare the meal, you add the boiling water, zip the top of the bag closed tightly, and the boiling water cooks and steams the beef, mushrooms, and noodles. It also forms a really nice and rich sour cream sauce that warms the body and provides some fluids so necessary when you are out in the wilderness.
The noodles are egg noodles, and the meal also contains a nice selection of spices like garlic, onions, salt, lemon juice, beef stock, molasses, and other “spices”. The beef is tender and the sauce is rich, it’s hard to imagine a meal that tastes this great was so easy to prepare. The meat is tender and the noodles are done al dente, just the way we like them. And it can be cooked in under ten minutes, so time really isn’t a factor at all.
There are two servings per package, and each serving contains 310 calories, 12 grams of fat, 4.5 grams of saturated fat, 0 grams of trans fat, 50 milligrams of cholesterol, 1010 milligrams of sodium, 36 grams of carbohydrates, 6 grams of fiber, 6 grams of sugars and a generous 13 grams of protein.
Mountain House Beef Stroganoff & Noodles contains no MSG, no artificial sweeteners and no artificial colorings, it seems quite natural for such a fast food style product. These would be a great product to have on hand in preparation for any kind of unforeseen emergency such as earthquake, flood, storm, hurricane, tornado, you name it! If you can get to water and bring it to a boil, you can make yourself a hot meal.
