Little did Sam know when he decided to head home to his beloved Susan.
Sam and Susan had known each other all their lives. They grow up playing together, gone to the same school. They loved each other as young children and more as grownups. Everyone at the small village of Makhodo in Limpopo knew they will end up married and grow old together because these two were inseparable.
Unfortunately due to the circumstances of the world Sam had to leave town to go to the University in Cape Town to study. He never forget to write, call his beloved everyday and reminds her of how much he misses her and how much he misses the forest they used to play and eat wild fruits. In her heart she knew that one day he will come back and they will get married and live happily ever after. Even their parents were ready for the negotiations of the brides price, which was planned to take place as soon as Sam finished his studies and come home. Little did they know what lies ahead of them.
They were reports of missing people from the same forest Sam and Susan used to visits but no one really take it seriously as everyone at this village knows this forest very well that it’s safe and it’s a place were everyone who needed peace go to. Why anyone would gets lost in the forest they grew up in.
Sam finally comes back from his long years of studies and Susan got prepared for his arrival as she had misses her beloved Sam. By luck he has landed a job at a local company as a chief engineer at his home town. This was an advantage for both these two lovers as Susan was working at the local hospital as a professional nurse.
The day he arrived they were so excited and didn’t want to be disturbed by their families, so Sam arranged that they meet at their favorite forest where they can be alone. He arranged a beautiful picnic spread with flowers and wine near the river. He had planned to propose that day. It was a beautiful sunny day, the sun was scotching as usual in the summer seasons in Limpopo. That didn’t bother the couple as they were used to the weather in any case they had more important things to concentrate in; their love. Susan looked so beautiful in her flowery dress her mother has bought for her for special occasions like this. She took Sam’s breath away.
Little did they know that the place has changed so much since they were there. The peaceful, beautiful forest has become the house for the savages (muti killers). They danced, laugh, and talk about the future. Life was beautiful, perfect like nothing else matters just before three men and a woman arrived out of nowhere. They had knives and none of their faces were covered. It was obvious to Sam and Susan that they were in trouble but they remained calm. Susan screamed but she was knocked on the head by the lady with a rock she passed out.
When she come to she realised she was bound against the tree with a rope. When she looked at her right side she got the shock of her life, it was the woman kneeling over her Sam cutting his private parts. He was disfigured; his eyes and tongue was in a plate next to him. He was still screaming even when his voice was not coming out. As she tried to scream she realised it was impossible because her tongue was out too. Her breasts and her tongue together with her ears were lying in front of her in a plate too that’s when she realised she must be dead. She fainted it could be shock or loss of blood.
Something mysterious happened that day, while she was unconscious someone asked her to wake up and go. She opened her eyes but a snake was looking at her looking like it was going to strike. But it vanished into the forest. When she looked for the mutilators; they were all lying on the floor dead. She realised that she was untied and free but her beloved Sam’s body was lying there naked, mutilated almost every part was cut of. To her amazement the parts were still there no one took them that’s when she ask herself was that snake some kind of his Sam’s spirit or it just came at a right time before she was killed. Whose voice was that asking her to wake up and go? ; Because everybody around her were dead. There was nothing she could do for her beloved but she needs to get away as far as she can. So she dragged her bloodied body up and run as fast as her legs could carry her. All she could think and see was the way Sam’s body look without those beautiful eyes and tongue. As she approaches the village she collapses from the exhaustion and loss of blood but fortunately enough an old man was passing there saw her and called for help.
She was rushed to the hospital where she is still recovering from the trauma and the mutilation of that day. This is the horror the villagers of Makhodo will never forget anytime soon. As for Susan her future was shattered for ever even though she was alive but she was left alone in the world no future, no Sam. What is she going to do now her life was is over?
Police investigated and found lots of bodies in the forest mutilated the same way Sam and Susan had. Lots of families found their missing children and bury them properly. ; Because of the unknown snake that killed the killers and saved Susan’s life. Now the people of Makhodo have hope and answers. This comfort gave Susan a will to live as she realised it was because she lived that all these families found their loved ones.
After extensive surgeries today Susan is happy and gives motivational talks about giving up and love in around Limpopo province.
Up to 300 people body parts are sacrificed every year in South Africa to be used in traditional Muti medicine. According to the statistics
