Anyone who hails from Florida can tell you that most of the Florida sports teams are horrible. Let’s face facts, they suck. There was only one time that everyone has to agree Florida had a sport industry crowning achievement.
In the 2003-2004 season, the lightning brought home the Stanley cup, the marlins won the world series, and Tampa Bay won the Superbowl. For any sports fan that backs Florida teams, that was a very impressive season for all three teams. They all deserved to finally be the champions. As a sports fan, I have backed the Lightning and the Buccaneers, even though I never figured they would see playoffs even. I found that this playoffs had me sitting on the edge of my seat with my fingers crossed hoping that we would finally get lucky. We were so very lucky that we took the championships that season.
I choose this as my favorite sports moment, because it is a great memory to have to remember that the underdog actually showed that they were just a diamond in the rough. A set of misfits in the sporting industry was able to beat the fan favorites and come out on top.
This to me shows that the more ea person believes in themselves the better they will do in the long run. I know that the teams I back may never hold another championship, but the one they received that year is a memory that can never be taken away from the players, the coaches, or the fans. We all will forever hold our underdog’s capabilities in a whole new light.
One year and a memory to last a lifetime. That is what makes the 2003-2004 season my favorite sports memory.
