My, It’s Thanksgiving Today
Fall is in the air, the smell of pumpkins and spice
Little gingerbread men and women, waiting to be sliced
I remember when I was a child, how I hated Thanksgiving
Only because, I hated to smell the Turkey cooking
There is something about raw poultry that still makes me uneasy today
But when I see the food on the table at dinner I just can’t wait
My mother and father have both gone, and I am getting older myself
But I still remember the feelings I felt
Watching my mother prepare all that food, and sitting around wandering
Will I be able to do the same when I get older?
My father’s think was watching TV, football games all day
Or maybe working an extra shift at the Post Office to help pay for all the gifts
This will be the very first year that I prepare the entire Thanksgiving meal
I already purchased the Turkey.
I am so excited and I can’t wait, to see how it all turns out.
I am going to invite others over the eat, and drink and be merry
Thanksgiving begins the Holiday season
The first shopping day of the year, 6:00 am at the stores
Looking and running to see what is on sale, and bringing all the bargains home
To put under the tree and begin the end of the year
To begin another one on New Year’s Day
And back to the store once more to see what else they have one sale.
To me Thanksgiving is more than this. I pray that I will remember the Lord, and Jesus.
I pray that I will give thanks for health, life, and being saved
I pray that I will give thanks for getting yet through another year of ups and downs
I pray that I will give thanks for having lived
I pray that I will give thanks for the sake of giving thanks
I pray that I will give thanks for others
I pray that others will give thanks for me
