Before I met Josey, I didn’t even know I had wanted a Boston Terrier. I had no idea just what a Boston Terrier would add to my life. While owning a Boston Terrier might not be for everyone, here are some of the reasons why I am thankful that I opened my home and heart to my lovable little Josey.
Boston Terriers are known for their unique ability to empathize with their owners. Josey knows my moods sometimes better than I do. She is happy when I am and sad when I’ve had a bad day. She’s always there to listen and offer up her “shoulder” to lean on. Bostons have a way about them. Their eyes are like windows into their souls and sometimes, you can swear that you can read emotions in them. I can tell by looking in Josey’s eyes if she’s tired, happy, ready to play, annoyed, and many other ranges of emotions. By nature, she’s very opinionated and very little goes on that she doesn’t have some sort of say about it.
Boston Terriers are also on the smaller size, but don’t let the size fool you. Inside every one of them is a big dog just trying to get out. I am reminded of this every time we venture into a pet store and Josey thinks that she is intimidating to dogs many times her size. They are extremely confident dogs and don’t back down. While Josey doesn’t fight or anything like that, she will get right into the face of a much bigger dog without an ounce of fear.
Even being small, Bostons are remarkably well put together. They have very compact and muscled little bodies. They love to lie in laps and can be great fun for older kids to play with. My Josey loves all kids and she seems to adjust her play level to the age of the child she is playing with. This is a very nice trait which I have been told by other Boston owners is common among them. There’s no doubt about it, Boston Terriers make great family pets.
As any Boston Terrier owner will tell you, these dogs are very playful and animated. However, they also love to lay around and be lazy which makes them great pets in many types of living arrangements. They can be happy living anywhere from an apartment to life on a farm. The main key to a Boston’s happiness is you. Wherever you are, that’s where they are happiest.
As I sit here writing this, Josey is curled at my feet ready to jump up as soon as I stand waiting for the day’s next adventure. Bostons are very loyal and Josey is no exception. All these reasons just touch the surface of all the joy Josey brings to my life. I can’t imagine life without a Boston Terrier.
