My New Year’s resolution in January was to set a new goal for each month throughout 2010 in order to make improvements in my life on a consistent basis. So, did I achieve my monthly goal for November, and what is my goal for December?
My monthly goal for November was stated :
I liked foregoing added sugars, and plan to stay on a lifetime program of doing so. During the month of November I plan to work on settling this new way of eating more firmly in my mind. I also plan to find more varied ways to cook and bake with the herbal sweetener, stevia. One example is that I want to devise my own recipe for granola cereal sweetened with stevia, since my breakfast choices during October were more limiting than I will want for the future.
Many things will change for me in the coming months, including: my cookbook collection; my pantry items; my cooking and baking methods; my recipes and my shopping habits. This will be a process that will evolve over time; my specific goal for November is to begin that process.
Did I meet my goal for November?
I did just fine with foregoing sugar, even over Thanksgiving. I wasn’t tempted by dessert items and although I didn’t study the ingredients listed on the product labels quite as studiously as I did in October when I was taking part in a fast at church, I did look them over for at least the number of grams of sugar. That gave me a pretty good indication of whether or not it would be something that I wanted to purchase.
The “partially” for meeting my goal was because I didn’t take time to learn to do much that is new with stevia. I did make an apple tart at Thanksgiving with stevia, which I enjoyed. And I sprinkled it (very carefully, since it is so concentrated) on many more items than I had done previously. For example, I mixed it into plain Greek Yogurt and found that it is a bit like pudding that way! But I didn’t try making granola. Instead, I continued to enjoy sautéed apple slices with stevia and cinnamon on my morning cereal (spoon-size Post shredded wheat).
All in all I was satisfied with the month’s outcome. I’m now well entrenched in my new lifestyle of foregoing added sugars, and I look forward to learning new ways to cook and bake with stevia.
My goal for December, 2010
This will be my last monthly goal to set for 2010! I want to keep it easy, relaxing, and fun. Therefore, here is my two-part goal, kept short and sweet!
1) To savor the Christmas season and just enjoy it all!
2) To visit as many of the content sites of my fans and favorites as I can, leaving comments and messages to the greatest extent possible.
I partially (and yet satisfactorily, for me) accomplished my November goal, and I have now established that foregoing added sugars is attainable for me. I plan to achieve my goal for December and enjoy a blessed and happy Christmas season with family and friends, including my online friends!
