As a physician, I know that being obese has impact on one’s health .I am conscious about my weight. Also, I feel slighted whenever I go around shops for beauti ful clothes and they don’t fit. Like anyone else, I want to look good. So, when on the nth time that I could not get into the dress that I wanted , I have decided to take reducing weight seriously. My body mass index was 26 with my weight of 124 lbs. and my height of 4 feet 10 inches . Although it was not yet on the obese level yet, I felt that I have to do something already. For anyone to know, BMI is the measurement of body fat based on these variables. The persons with BMI of 18 and below are underweight. Those with BMI of 18.5 to 24.9 have normal weight. Those with BMI 25 to 29.9 are overweight, while those with BMI of 30 and above are obese. We can get the values by multiplying our weight in pounds with the value of 4.88 and divide it with the square of our height in feet.
I started taking the slimming pills last January. I saw my colleagues taking the Chinese medications, of which label and box were not readable because the words were in Chinese calligraphy. As we took the pills, the others stopped taking because they became too lazy to do it. I lost only 2 pounds after three months of taking. I, however, suffered from palpitations and headache in the afternoons. I decided to stop.
Then, after doing a procedure in the operating room one morning, I noticed a big weight loss on one of the surgeons. She was beautiful woman that I have known when I was still a medical student. She gained weight when she had a child. I asked her what was her secret? I asked what was it that she was taking? She told me that she simply eliminated rice in her meals. She also took lots of vegetables. I told her that it was easy for me to do. When I was in college, I was not eating rice. That was why I was fit. I could wear any dress without looking awkward back then.
Since it would be hard to do it when I am still in my residency training, I waited till I finally graduated last July. I also did some walking and jogging in our nearby park in the afternoon. What just stopped me was whenever I had women in labor in the hospitals and I had to watch over them. I still ate carbohydrates, but just sandwiches. I ignored fatty food like hamburger and fried chicken. I took lots of soups. Well, anyway, I am a kind of soup person. I mean, I live with hot soups since I was small. If I craved for soda, I bought diet Coke. However, recently, I promise to take a lot of water which is the real no-sugar drink. It can also help wash out lots of toxins. I was happy because I lost 3 kg in a month. I started wearing some clothes that I was not able to buy.
When I became satisfied with my look in the mirror last November, I resumed the usual Filipino diet with rice. However, I felt that my appetite is strong. I have to gain some control. I plan to jog again and refrain from the rice and the fatty stuff. It feels good to be fit and I guess, I am determined to lose much more weight. This time, my goal is to bring back my prepregnancy weight.
