Every year starting around the 2nd week in December I start making my New Years Resolution list. This year I have decided to add some fashion tidbits into it, for the first time ever! It has come to my attention that I tend to wear a little too much of the same colors and styles and am kindly forcing myself to explore other alternatives in the world of fashion that I know almost nothing about.
Out with the Flats, In with the Heels
I’m a girl of comfort and my favorite pairs of shoes are flip flops or ballet flats. That’s it. I don’t even own another pair of shoes other than a ratty old pair of walking shoes. I live in my flip flops, and since they aren’t allowed at work, I have to wear my flats there. I live in San Diego so I can wear my flip flops year-round. In 2011 I am making it my goal to buy at least one pair of heels. I think the last time I wore more than a ½ inch heel was my grandparents 50th anniversary party; in 1998! It’s time to find something with a hell to add to my wardrobe.
The Little Black Dress
It’s true, I don’t own one. My closet looks like a shrine to denim and cotton. I would say about 90% of my clothes are either a pair of jeans or a t-shirt. So in 2011 one of my Fashion New Years Resolutions is to buy a little black dress, and actually wear it which is the hardest part. After a quick internet search I have found some cute dresses at Kohl’s, Target and Torrid so I will start there when I’m ready to shop. All I can say is that I bet my husband will be grateful!
Bring on the Jewelry
It may seem odd that someone who has been designing fashion jewelry for years doesn’t wear much of it, but I’m guilty of it! I’m one of those designers that makes what she feels, not what she wears. As I get more interested in metalsmithing, I plan on incorporating some of my own personal style into the designs, as well as supporting the local crafting community by buying some handmade items on Etsy or Artfire. In 2011 I will be wearing more necklaces, bracelets, rings and earrings to go with my new look.
